Off the Ground
LESS has been successful in its bid for over £200,000 of funding from the Big Lottery Fund's Local Food scheme for a new allotment site and food growing project, 'Off the Ground'. Off the Ground will help to improve both the environment and people’s health though encouraging and supporting the consumption of locally grown fruit and vegetables.
The allotment site, on Ambleside Road, in the Ridge area of Lancaster, received planning permission last year and is likely to be open by June. The allotment site will be managed by a team of horticulturalists and be available for use by individuals and groups. The team will also offer training on food growing and offer advice and support to schools and community organisations across the Lancaster District on the planning and implementation of food growing projects.
If you would like to register your interest in having a plot on the new allotment site please send an email to food[at]lessuk.org, giving your name and address. (NB replace [at] with @).
