Allotment project to get Off the Ground

02/23/10

Building the new allotment site begins

Category: General

Work has now started on site to build new allotments for Lancaster. This new project is called 'Off the Ground' and is being coordinated by Tom Fyson at LESS. The new allotments are situated off Ambleside Road on the Ridge Estate, and will provide a place for local residents to grow their own fruit, vegetables and herbs. The allotment site will have a communal polytunnel for growing more tender plants (e.g. tomatoes, peppers and aubergiines) and to prolong the growing season. Training on food growing will be available from two project workers (Claire and Robin) who start work in July. As well as providing a new allotment site, Off the Ground will help local schools and community groups with their food growing projects and encourage people to grow food in their own gardens.

To register your interest in an allotment, please phone Joy or Tom on 01524 65937 or 66100 or send an email to joy(at)lessuk.org
